Colloquium

General Purpose

The joint NaUKMA and FSU Jena “German and European Studies” programme is again offering a “Research Colloquium” for the social sciences and humanities. Our colloquium is an opportunity to present and discuss research projects on a regular basis and in a collegiate atmosphere. The seminar is especially designed to support young researchers like PhD candidates or late MA students with formulating relevant research questions, using the right methodology, finding and interpreting data and with all aspects writing up a thesis. However, also seasoned academics and professors are welcome to join of course! Researchers are invited to present projects at all stages (early sketch and idea, finished exposé, data analysis, write-up phase) and the feedback will be of non-binding and advisory character only. Repetative presentations (every semester or academic year) are possible and will be encouraged.

Practicalities

The colloqium will be moderated jointly by Dr. André Härtel, the DAAD Associate Professor for “German and European Studies” at NaUKMA, and by Dr. Maksym Yakovlev, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science of NaUKMA. Speakers will be expected to hand in a short research proposal or exposé (depending on the stage of research) one week before the presentation, which will be obligatory reading for all participants. Participants are expected to comment on the proposal/presentation and give a structured feedback providing the speaker with valuable practical advise on how to proceed. In case no presentation is scheduled, the colloquium group will meet to discuss a proposed research or theoretical article, or new developments in social science methodology and research praxis.

Presentations by external (meaning non-NaUKMA) Ukrainian MA and PhD candidates are possible and international guest researchers (PhD Research Fellows, Fulbright Professors etc.) are also welcome to present and attend. Applicants for the doctoral scholarships of the joint NAUKMA and FSU Jena “German and and Europan Studies” program are obliged to present their research here before the grant will be approved.

We generally aim to contribute to scholarly research and a vibrant intellectual atmosphere at NaUKMA, where ideas should be discussed in a deliberately open and non-competative way. Working language will be English. The seminar is ongoing and will be informal part of every trimester at the NaUKMA. If you wish to enroll as participant and receive our newsletter or if you have questions to the organizers/moderators please contact Dr. André Härtel (andre.haertel@gmail.com).

Location and Time

The Colloquium usually takes place every Wednesday, 6pm on the 5th Corpus of NaUKMA, room 5-313 (facilities of the International Office of NaUKMA).
